The universe (which others call the Library) is composed of an indefinite and perhaps infinite number of hexagonal galleries, with vast air shafts between, surrounded by very low railings. The narrator begins by introducing the Library, which is "indefinite, perhaps infinite" (112) and makes up the whole universe in the story. Due to the recent termination of Alice's channel, we all got a grim reminder that not everything on the internet is forever.
